John Mayer's new album is so full of grown-up-depression and heartbreakingly-soft darkness that every time I play it I realize that someone out there simply... Understands.
I don't know what's been happening to our generation over the last few years, but we've allowed all the Disney-gone-slutty and freakishly-chic bullshit take over our radios, TV music channels and even our very own cellphones, iPods, mp3, mp4 players, and so on... Why? What for? So kids can learn to pole-dance before they can even cross the street? I say FUCK THAT. I want things to go back to the way they used to be. I want to hear about all those things that used to make life worth it, and not about parties in the back yard, stupid aliens, purity rings and seven things to hate about your "ex". I want to hear about REAL and CRUEL heartbreaks, HONEST pain, and everything one does to become numb and minimize it.
So thank you, John Mayer. Thank you for understanding. Thank you for bringing back the cruel heartbreak, the honest pain, and the sweet, smokey agony of its slow -but eventually guaranteed- healing. Thank you for reassuring me that being myself is a MUST in order to accept, face or fight against whatever life throws at you. Thank you for the cheezy songs. Thank you for making daddy issues sound so loveable. Thank you for making me remember every single detail of every heartbreak, every fight. Thank you for trying to encourage me to say all those things I'm too afraid to say. Thank you for being so funny, but yet, looking so childish and -almost- vulnerable. Thank you for playing such kick ass gigs. Thank you for transmitting all those amazing vibes, because even though I live on the other side of the world, I still get all excited and hyped every time I watch one of your shows. Thank you for still being a true musician, and not getting lost in the flashes and screaming chicks. Thank you, John Mayer. Thank you for bringing MUSIC back.
